It is with an extremely heavy heart that I say goodbye to my friend Tomi Hulkkonen.
My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children and family at this difficult time.
His union brothers and sisters should be very proud to know how well they were represented under his leadership. Tomi was a committed, fearless leader, advocate and defender of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 494.
Tomi was the inspiration for my Private Members Bill C241 (an act for deduction of travel expenses for tradespersons). He was always available to answer questions, share his thoughts and spoke as a witness, before the Senate, in defence of this Bill, not because it was mine, but because it was right and good for tradespeople.
I am eternally grateful for knowing him. He was truly the gentlemen’s gentleman.
