Talking about EVs | June 4, 2026

As co-chair of the Conservative Auto Caucus, I was pleased to sit around the table with Global Automakers of Canada and Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association to discuss the negative impact Chinese EVs will have on our domestic auto industry, and Carney’s alleged promise to repeal the EV mandate.

While Carney is purportedly limiting the number of Chinese EVs entering our market this year, Chinese EVs are projected to account for one-third of EV sales in Canada. This pushes out local EV manufacturers and weakens Canada’s EV industry. Carney also promised to scrap the EV mandate in September of last year, it remains firmly in place with no clear timeline for its removal. These poor decisions will have huge consequences for our auto industry.

My Conservative colleagues and I will continue working to support and protect Canadian auto workers and manufacturers, while advocating for the repeal of the EV mandate.
