Backdoor Gun Registry Moved Forward by Liberal Government | June 23, 2021

The Federal Government Moves Forward With Backdoor Gun Registry

Yesterday, Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced that effective July 7, 2021, the Liberal government will be implementing new regulations on firearms, including expanding mandatory firearms licence background checks to cover the lifetime of an applicant, and reinstating the requirement to seek Authorization to Transport (ATT) for restricted and prohibited firearms.

Instead of providing Parliament with an opportunity to consult with Indigenous representatives, firearms businesses, and law-abiding firearm owners, all of whom will all be impacted by these regulations coming into force, the Trudeau Liberals waited until the last possible moment to prevent Parliamentarians from being able to properly examine their plan.

Canada’s Conservatives continue to call on the Trudeau Liberals to repeal C-71, put an end to their plans for a backdoor gun registry, previously introduced in 2019.
