Reflections from Debora | Dec 12, 2023

“This past semester I had the honour and opportunity to be a Parliamentary Intern at the House of Commons – Chambre des Communes Canada for Member of Parliament Chris Lewis. Over a short three months span, I was able to firsthand witness many historical events and learn about the work of Canadian politicians.

Prior to working in politics and from an outsider perspective, I thought I was aware of the work done on Parliament Hill. It wasn’t until I started working on the Hill that I saw with an insider perspective what it really means to work in the Parliament. Working with MP Chris Lewis has allowed me to gain a greater understanding of the immense responsibility and dedication required of public servants to effectively serve their constituents.

Additionally working under MP Chris Lewis has taught me the importance of humility and servant hearted leadership.

Although my time in Ottawa was limited, I am thankful for all the valuable insight, knowledge, experiences and networking that obtained while working inside politics.

Lastly, I would like to thank MP Chris Lewis and his staff for all of their guidance and support throughout my internship. My internship experience has been invaluable in helping me develop new skills and gain a deeper understanding of the political landscape. I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such dedicated individuals who have been instrumental in shaping my career aspirations.”
