Standing up for Canadian steel workers | Oct 16, 20

Canada’s steel industry is facing serious challenges, and Canadian workers and their families are paying the price. Recent layoffs at Stelco, Algoma Steel and ArcelorMittal are another reminder that we need to protect Canadian jobs and strengthen our ability to manufacture and build right here at home.

The Conservatives have proposed a Steel Plan focused on protecting Canadian workers and making our steel industry more competitive. The plan calls for enforcing Stelco’s job guarantees, preventing unfairly traded Chinese steel from undercutting Canadian producers, eliminating the industrial carbon tax, accelerating LNG projects that use Canadian steel, and returning to the negotiating table with the United States to address trade barriers.

Canada has the skilled workers, resources and expertise to compete with anyone. We need policies that support Canadian industry, encourage investment and ensure Canadian workers have a strong future.
