Statement by Chris Lewis MP on the tragic plane crash in Tehran that claimed the lives of five University of Windsor students

ESSEX, ON – A tragedy that struck thousands of miles away has hit our community hard.

Five students who came to our region from their homeland of Iran perished this week in the plane crash in Tehran along with 171 of their fellow passengers.

Today, our community gathers to mourn their passing. Many of you have lost friends and colleagues. The people of Essex stand with you in your sorrow.

To those in our community of Iranian descent, I offer my sincerest condolences for your loss.

May you find comfort in knowing that we share your grief.

To all their fellow students at the University of Windsor, I know that your world has been rocked by this tragic accident. May you find your solace and support in the company of others.

The shock of this tragic accident has reverberated around the world. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

We all want answers to what caused this terrible tragedy. I am committed to ensuring that you have the answers you deserve.
