How will youth benefit from these changes?
Right now, young Canadians are facing serious challenges finding work. Many youth are counting on summer jobs to fund their tuition, pay for their food or rent but could be seeing job opportunities hindered because of the impacts of COVID-19.
Extending placements beyond the summer months recognizes that some placements may need to start later than usual and gives employers the flexibility to keep youth longer. In addition, these changes will allow employers to hire students on a part-time basis during the academic year. Previously, all CSJ-funded positions had to be completed no later than August 28, 2020.
