Essex MP Chris Lewis Calls for Immediate Support for Small Businesses in Kingsville and Leamington

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JUNE 29, 2020

ESSEX, ON – Chris Lewis, Deputy Shadow Minister for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and Member of Parliament for Essex, today issued the following statement calling on the Trudeau government to provide immediate support for small businesses in Kingsville and Leamington:

“Small businesses and workers in the Town of Kingsville and the Town of Leamington need urgent help. While the rest of the country is gradually reopening, these municipalities have been shut down for months and have not moved beyond Phase 1 due to an outbreak of COVID-19.

“While the Government of Ontario’s decision is understandable, it comes with devastating consequences for our small businesses. Without the targeted financial support they desperately need, many will have to close permanently, while others are on the brink of bankruptcy.

“My Conservative colleagues and I are calling on Prime Minister Trudeau to provide immediate support for small businesses and workers in Kingsville and Leamington. The Liberals have committed record amounts of funding to large cities like Toronto and Montreal. Our smaller, rural, but just as important communities, are asking for the same commitment of support. The need is urgent. It must start immediately; our businesses cannot wait any longer.”
