Trudeau Returns to Harper’s Non-Partisan Appointment Process for the Governor General | Mar 15, 2021

On Friday, the Trudeau Liberals’ announced that they will be re-establishing the non-partisan appointment process to nominate a Governor General to succeed Julie Payette.

The Governor General is the Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces and has an important constitutional role.

In 2012, Conservatives created a non-partisan appointment process to nominate Canada’s Governor General. Instead of using an effective, proven process, Justin Trudeau arrogantly snubbed the process and appointed his own candidate.

Following the disastrous outcomes of his last appointment, the Trudeau Liberals announced on Friday that they will be re-establishing an advisory panel made up of six people from across Canada to select the next Governor General.

Canada’s Conservatives are glad that the Liberals are returning to our effective, proven process.
