Statement by Chris Lewis, MP Essex
On Michigan’s
Offer of Surplus Vaccines for Canadians Living in Windsor-Essex

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, May 31, 2021

OTTAWA, ON – During Question Period today, I challenged the Trudeau Government to take action on Michigan’s offer to donate their surplus vaccines to Canadians living in Windsor-Essex.

Below is a transcript of my Question. The video from the House is also included.

“Mr. Speaker, weeks ago, Michigan generously offered its surplus vaccines to residents in Windsor-Essex. While thousands of vaccines are being tossed daily by the city of Detroit, despite repeated appeals by local officials, this Government has taken NO action.

Mr. Speaker, only 4% of Canadians are fully vaccinated. Among those waiting are hundreds of thousands of local residents. Enough with the excuses, delays and Liberal red tape, when will this Government take action to ensure these US vaccines are available immediately?”

Yet again, a Minister of this Government wilfully ignored an urgent question on vaccines for Canadians while their many failures on procuring sufficient vaccines piles up. In her non-answer, the Minister showed her disdain for the many residents of Essex & Windsor wanting answers to the delays in accepting Michigan’s offer.
