Remembering the 215 Children Lost | June 3, 2021

The news of the remains of 215 children found in a mass grave at a former residential school in Kamloops has shaken our nation. I wish to personally acknowledge the deep sorrow and mourning that all Indigenous peoples and survivors of residential schools are experiencing because of this tragic news. My sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc nation and to the surrounding Indigenous communities.

Today, on Parliament Hill, I paid my respects at the Centennial Flame memorial. I did so on behalf of my family and the people of Essex. As a father and grandfather, my heart breaks for the families of these precious children. We can and must do better.
