Meeting with Local Historian Elise Harding Davis | June 18, 2021

I had a very special visitor to my office today – Elise Harding Davis, a well-known local historian, and Curator Emeritus of the Amherstburg Freedom Museum, formerly known as the North American Black Historical Museum – the only one of its kind designated as a national historic site. I had occasion to celebrate the Museum and Elise in the House during black history in February.

Elise possesses a wealth of knowledge of the history of the early refugees fleeing slavery in the US and can trace her own ancestry in Essex County back seven generations. I look forward to learning from and working with Elise to showcase the depth and breadth of “black history in the Canadian tapestry” and most especially, black history here in my riding of Essex.
