A new report from the Parliamentary Budget Officer reveals the real impact of what the current government is proposing:
-5% drop in oil & gas production
-$20.5 billion lost in GDP every year
-54,400 full-time jobs eliminated by 2032
Canada’s energy sector supports nearly 1 million jobs and contributes billions to government revenues—funding our schools, hospitals, and infrastructure. In 2022 alone, oil & gas generated $45 billion for essential public services. But instead of strengthening our economy and supporting workers, this proposed cap will lead to job losses and higher costs for Canadians.
Now, as Canada faces new U.S. tariffs and growing economic uncertainty, we should be focused on creating opportunities, not restricting growth. Canada has the resources, the talent, and the innovation to be a leader in responsible energy production while ensuring good-paying jobs for workers across the country.
