Supporting the Repeal of the Ban of Single-Event Sports Betting | Nov 26, 2020

Conservatives are pleased to see the government is finally coming onside by supporting the repeal of the ban of single-event sports betting, especially after the vast majority of their caucus voted against this proposal in the last Parliament.

We are, however, skeptical that they are going to make this legislation a priority. This legislation was left in limbo when the government shut down Parliament over the summer and showed absolutely no urgency in continuing the important work that is done through Private Members’ Business.

This is an important issue where action is long overdue. That’s why my Conservative colleague, MP Waugh, brought forward the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act back in February and that’s why I agreed to be a seconder of the Bill.

This commonsense change, long championed by Unifor Local 444 and Windsor-Essex MPs from all parties, will support well-paying Union jobs, Canadian industry and local communities.
