Should telecom giant Huawei be permitted to help build or operate on Canada’s 5G networks?
The debate about whether Canada should permit or prohibit telecom giant Huawei from helping to build or operate on our country’s 5G networks will return to Parliament during the weeks ahead.
While Canada’s Five Eyes intelligence partners (which include Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States) have formally blocked Huawei from operating in their countries due to worries about national security, espionage, privacy or intellectual property, our own federal government has not yet made a firm decision.
Our domestic intelligence experts and Canadian Armed Forces officials have recommended that Huawei not be permitted within Canada’s 5G networks owing to serious national security concerns.
As well, the US has stated that it will likely to stop sharing intelligence with Canada should our government allow Huawei to operate within our country’s 5G environment. What’s your view?
