Calling Top Liberal Advisors to Testify | Mar 17, 2021

March 17, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON – Michael Barrett, Conservative Shadow Minister for Ethics, and Pierre Poilievre, Conservative Shadow Minister for Jobs and Industry, released the following statement regarding revelations from the testimony of Marc and Craig Kielburger at the House of Commons Ethics Committee on March 15, 2021:

“Conservatives are calling for top Trudeau Advisor Ben Chin, PMO Policy Director Rick Thies, and Senior Policy Advisor at Finance Canada Amitpal Singh to testify regarding their roles in setting up the $500 million Canada Student Service Grant with WE Charity, an organization which paid roughly a half-million dollars to the Prime Minister’s family.

“The Kielburgers testified at the Ethics Committee that Ben Chin, a Senior Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office, had no role in setting up this program. However, documents released to the Finance Committee last summer prove otherwise:

June 27, 2020: LinkedIn message from Craig Kielburger to Ben Chin: “Hello Ben, Thank you for your kindness in helping shape our latest program with the gov’t. Warmly, Craig.”

June 29, 2020: LinkedIn message from Ben Chin to Craig Kielburger: “Great to hear from you Craig. Let’s get our young working!”

“Given the contradiction between Craig Kielburger’s testimony that PMO had no role in setting up the half-billion-dollar WE Charity grant and his written message about a PMO advisor’s efforts to “shape our latest program,” the Committee must hear from top Trudeau Advisors Ben Chin and Rick Thies, and Senior Policy Advisor at Finance Canada Amitpal Singh.

“There must be accountability from this Prime Minister, his government, and all involved. Canadians deserve the truth in the Trudeau WE Scandal.”
