Calling for Protection of Border Agents and Staff | Apr 20, 2021

I recently met with the CBSA Union President and was surprised to find out that the 540 workers they represent – Agents & staff – have not been given access to the vaccine. An outbreak would not only put the health of these workers in jeopardy, but a closure of the border would also jeopardize our already fragile supply chain.

I raised this matter in the House yesterday with Public Safety Minister Blair. He acknowledged the problem, a first – and then did what he does best it seems – deflected it.

Ensuring an adequate supply of vaccines is the Federal Government’s responsibility. The Liberals have a dismal record on vaccine procurement. Further, a discussion about frontline workers at the Border was their responsibility to raise weeks ago with their provincial counterparts, not as an afterthought.

Hopefully, Minister Blair does indeed take action asap, and these essential frontline workers will be given access to the vaccine.
