Speaking to the Lumber Crisis at the Trade Committee | June 4, 2021

I had the privilege to sit in on the International Trade Committee’s meeting yesterday. It was great to be back discussing the softwood lumber industry, a vital part of Canada’s exports and economy.

It was appalling, though sadly not shocking, to learn that 18 months after my Conservative colleagues and I sent an open letter to Deputy Prime Minister Freeland recommending that “a panel of experts be appointed to evaluate softwood lumber products “, nothing has been done. Eighteen months later and our government is still just reacting to American decisions instead of proactively protecting Canada’s interests. Meanwhile, lumber prices are skyrocketing. Where is the leadership?
