Local MP visits Iraq as part of human rights fact-finding mission | Apr 3, 2023
The local MP, who recently completed a five-day visit to the Middle Eastern nation with an international delegation of fact-finders, said the Chaldean and Yazidi peoples in Iraq faced persecution while the extremist ISIS group was in control of their regions.
“Windsor-Essex is home to a large Chaldean community, and many still have friends and family in Iraq who have suffered from persecution and discrimination at the hands of ISIS,” he said. ISIS, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, was driven out of most of Iraq in 2017.
