April 2021 News
Today I tabled a petition signed by local business owners and their workers calling for clarity and certainty at the Canada-US border. Contracts and well-paying jobs are being lost due to the Liberal Government’s inaction.
Travel Advisors have not qualified for any of the Liberal’s supposed “one size fits all” business support programs. As Judy put it, “How much longer can we hang on with no revenue from our businesses and no sector specific aid from our government?”
One witness was dismissive of my Covid-related questions, saying “if you can find [four people who skipped quarantine for the fine] I would be amazed.” So far CTV is reporting over 400… I look forward to considering the testimony of all the witnesses

After meeting with CBSA Union President this past week, I raised this urgent matter in the House of Commons. Today the Public Safety Minister announced that the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit will be vaccinating local Canada Border Services Agency Officers and Staff. Happy Birthday Allison| Apr 21, 2021
Wishing my beautiful wife, my friend and mother of my children a VERY Happy Birthday. Although I must say she is typically confused by many as my daughter. Allison continues to be my rock in my passion to serve Essex. She truly is my strength and deserves to be celebrated. One day we will get away (and you’ll have my undivided attention!) once again.
Thanks my love! Happy Birthday.
I recently met with the CBSA Union President. The 540 workers they represent have not been given access to the vaccine. An outbreak would jeopardize their health, and a closure of the border would jeopardize our already fragile supply chain.

The facts on the ground don’t warrant Windsor’s inclusion.” Thankfully, NavCanada made the right decision. What’s missing from an otherwise great article from the Windsor Star is an even passing mention of the efforts of Essex MP, Chris Lewis.
Friday evening MP Shannon Stubbs, Official Opposition Shadow Minister Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, joined me in addressing the concerns of local legal gun owners and sport shooters, including airsoft and paintball enthusiasts.
Chris’ hard work on the border is paying off. The cross-border commerce issue finally made it onto the Government’s radar. Chris questioned the Minister of Foreign Affairs when he appeared before CAAM today. Here’s a highlight from their exchange. (see video below)
The Government of Ontario has deemed the manufacturing and assembly sectors essential service. Business owners, their employees and customers, that hold a valid visa, must not be quarantined or pay hefty fines at the border, as a cost of doing business.
Today in CAAM I spoke with the Minister for Trade and Small Business, reminding them that trade includes the people that go with the product. Law-abiding business owners and workers are facing lengthy quarantine and hefty fines. I also addressed petition e-3297.
