Fighting for Kingsville & Leamington | Jun 26, 2020
As with everyday, I continue to fight, desperately, for our riding. Specifically today, regarding Kingsville & Leamington. I had indepth conversations with the Leamington Chamber of Commerce, local mayors, David Epp MP & Rick Nicholls MPP to create solutions to move us forward.
Re-Opening Our Local Economy | Jun 23, 2020
My dear friends and neighbours, we have been dealt a tough blow. I am hearing your dismay across the County. I understand your frustrations and share your pain. My thoughts are also with our small business owners whose livelihood is at great risk. Rest assured, I have been, and will continue, to actively pursue every level of government to get our local economy re-opened immediately.
Even even before the pandemic the EI system was deeply flawed. On Monday, during Special COVID-19 Committee Proceedings, I asked the Minister of Employment to commit to a complete review and overhaul of the system. Workers pay into EI and they need to know that governments have their backs when they need it the most.
At UNIFOR Local 195’s press conference last Friday, I made a commitment to do whatever I can as the MP for Essex to support workers in Essex and Windsor. The EI system needs to be fixed on an urgent basis. Workers in our region are facing much uncertainty. Hundreds will be out of a job when Chrysler eliminates the third shift in early July.
Even before the pandemic, the EI system was not responding in a timely or adequate fashion to workers’ claims. I share UNIFOR’s concern that the system needs to be modified and streamlined on an urgent basis to cover what will be a wave of claims post the CERB.
National Blood Donor Week is an opportunity to extend heartfelt thanks to all donors and partners across the country for their commitment, agility and lifesaving contributions to Canada’s Lifeline during the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout the year.
“Trans Canada Trail and our local trail partners have seen a increased number of Canadians turning to trails for physical activity, transportation or respite. After all, trails make us all happier, more creative and improve our overall physical and mental health. Everyone should know how great being out on the trails can feel.”
“On June 27th, at 12:00 pm, we are asking as many residents as possible, in all communities in Windsor and Essex County, to place a non-perishable on their doorstep and we will have it picked up. These donations will be given to those who need it. With the current economic situation facing us, many more people have been pushed to rely on food donations, and we are coming together to help.”
